Creating opportunities

When developing local community networks and social support networks it's important to have a reason to meet up, an objective, a purpose or even just a simple activity. One of the main objectives of Qultura networks is to create opportunities for different people to come together to share different interests and take part in different creative, cultural and community type activities.

Usually in any local community there are people with a wide variety of different interests. These interests can be anything from bird watching, gardening, walking, rambling, cycling, through to more creative interests which involve music, writing, film making, photography, or crafts such as knitting, crochet, model making, creative writing, writing poetry, watching films, painting, art, or even having discussions on various topics. Then there are other interests such as cooking.

Many people have interests which can easily involve other people, but which often also require access to local community space, or they have difficulties finding people who share the same interests.

Much of Qultura's work involves bringing different people together to take part in or share different activities. This is by far one of the most helpful and beneficial things which can be done to support people who are affected by social stigma and social exclusion. It allows people to recover their self-esteem and self-confidence, and helps people recover from the damaging and negative effects of social exclusion and social stigma and find ways of overcoming their sense of exclusion, isolation and stigma.

Additionally communities where people actively participate and cooperate together in various community, cultural and social activities are communities which are generaklly stronger, more inclusive and safer than more divided and isolated communities where people don't participate in such activities.
