Natural Law

Natural Law is the first component of Qultura methodology. It is essentially about dependent arising and the interconnectedness and interdependence of everything in existence. It is also about karma and energy cycles, waves and vibrations.

All existence is change, all existence is relationship.

This is one of the basic premises of Qultura methodology. This is based on an understanding of Natural Law and the notion of dependent arising - as this arises, that becomes. This all relates to something which is known as the interdependent change of origin. There is no separateness anywhere in existence anywhere in the universe. Everything is relative to everything else.

What this means is that whenever you get a polarity or a duality, say in the cases of male and female, there is always a connection between the two and also both are also one and the same, in this case a human being. Even when you have two seemingly mutual opposites, there is always a connection between the two and on some level they are one and the same thing.

So let's look at the different aspects of this so you get a deeper understanding of Natural Law.

Gestalt

We're going to jump right in and get this nailed by starting with a few black and white images "borrowed" from Gestalt psychology. Above you see three images from left to right. So what can you see?

  • [left] Do you see two white faces in profile facing each other or a black Rubin vase?
  • [centre] Do you see a black tree with birds or a white gorilla facing a white lioness?
  • [right} Do you see a black silhouette of a man playing a saxophone or a black and white composite image of a woman's face?

The figure or image you saw first was the image you most strongly identified with in terms of consciousness, but see the image you didn't see in each case formed the background and defined the image. But see in each case you cannot see an image without 'discounting' and making the other image the background. Also note that it's not possible to see both images, for example the two faces and also the Rubin vase together, simultanously.

Notice how background and foreground are both different, and yet both are interchangeable and also both mutually dependent on one another and also one and the same thing. Keeping in mind that 'as this arises, that becomes' statement of dependent arising, we could also state:

  • As the two faces on the left became apparent, the black Rubin vase became the background.
  • As the black Rubin vase became visible, the two white faces became the background.

The two faces and Rubin vase are mutually dependent on one another. In the exact same way we could say that consciousness and space are mutually dependent on one another. What is consciousness and what is space is arbitrary, because you cannot perceive space unless you are conscious. So we make the assumption that consciousness is existence because it is information, or specifically it is 'IN-formation' whereas space is not formation, not form, but defines form and information by giving it reality.

The connection always exists, because symchronicity is a connection through consciousness, while synergy is a connection through space.

You can click through the other tabs for other examples of dependent arising and things which seem different or even mutually opposite going together and being one and the same thing.

So now we move into the next aspect which is the concept of self. Consciousness is the basis of all existence and the 'ground of being', or fundamental nature of existence is self. Self is synonymous with 'being'. Self is actually the fundamental basis of being. Therefore we can understand being to mean existence.

But see here being is dependent on relationship, and relationship is dependent on being, so we can understand that being and relationship are mutually dependent on one another. It's not possible to be without being relative to everything else that is. It's not possible to exist in relationship without being.

Therefore we can understand the universe as self, the world as self, Nature as self, a tree as self, you as self, every other human being as self, and so on and so forth and everything being in relationship with everything else.

But see when you have many different things or being together in mutually dependent relationships you have an environment. This is where we get into the mutually dependent relationship of totality and individual just as we can get into the mutually dependent relationship between self and environment. You are dependent on various environments, the environment of this planet or a natural environment for such essential things as air, water, heat, food. You are dependent on a social environment, a community, a society. You are also totally dependent on the 'environment' of your physical body and the various relationships between your brain, your senses, your internal organs, and so on.

Likewise the environment is dependent on self and being, for example on insight from individual human life experience without which culture and social evolution would stagnate and regress. But unfortunately human beings as a species haven't quite evolved to reach a level of consciousness to comprehend that self and environment is a mutually necessary, mutually dependent two way relationship.

Likewise the relationship between self and other is also a mutually dependent relationship. We can take the obvious example of male and female, a man and a woman, and while we may joke that a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle male and female are mutually dependent and mutually necessary to one another and also... are one and the same in that they are both human beings of the same species. Understand that who you are as 'self' is totally dependent on who other people are as 'self'.

But once again, unfortunately, not everyone gets this.

In terms of Qultura methodology Self is defined as Principle or Core Being (in the case of Unmind).

bed

Let's start with a familiar situation - waking up in the morning. You stir. You turn over. You turn back. You roll over. You lie on your back. You open your eyes. You yawn. You sit up. You look around yourself and check the time. You sit up in bed. You get up. You go to the bathroom. You pee. You flush and wash your hands. You head to the kitchen. You fill the kettle. You get a mug and a teabag or spoon some coffee in whie you wait for the kettle to boil. All this within the space of a few minutes.

This is karma

Karma is a Sanskrit word which quite literally means 'action'. But see karma is the basis of Natural Law in a physical sense and the basis of physical existence. Therefore karma is memory and is also action as in action, reaction and interaction. This means that karma is the basis of physical memory, physical being and physical doing within the context of what is understood and known to be the mystical transaction between self and environment and self and other.

This means that karma is both what happens to you and also what you do in response.

Please also keep in mind that memory here isn't just recall memory or implicit memory in your mind or brain, it is all physical memory of every biological cell in your body and your entire physiology and biology. Please keep in mind also that the memory of your biology and physical body goes way back through your mother through all the generations and the entire history of biological evolution. You are just one more incarnation of the entire human species.

Likewise karma isn't just conscious choice and consequence or cause and effect. Cast your mind back to the opening scenario and waking up. You never learned how to wake up, you just did it. Similarly with many of those other actions. Nobody taught you how to pee. They only taught you where to pee. If you has to consciously think about and consider every single action in the process of waking up such as how to open your eyes, how to sit up, how to move your head, how to walk, you would never get up in the morning or it would take you several hours just to get out of bed.

Karma defines the processes of constant creativity and interaction which define the universe. Therefore we can understand karma to be a process. In terms of Qultura methodology karma and all the physical aspects of your being are defined as process.

waterfalls

As we come towards the end of this first component of Qultura methodology it's probably best to use an image of a waterfall to emphasize the mutual dependency of form and motion. We often assume that form is permanent and unchanging but this is to forget the basic premise of Natural Law.

All existence is change, all existence is relationship

We rely on physical sensory awareness to determine what is existence and what is reality, and what is consciousness and what is space. We often forget that form and motion always go together and that the basis of physical existence is not physical form, but energy vibration. Karmic process is the basis of all 'physical' reality and while a waterfall looks the same across time in terms of form, water is flowing over the edge of the cliff beneath the waterfall constantly so the waterfall is in a perpetual or permanent state of flux.

This brings us back to the mutual dependency of being and relationship because both being and relationship are subject to karmic process. This means that self is impermanent especially in physical form and relationship is impermanent particularly in a physical sense. You see energy is constant, finite and cannot be created or destroyed yet space and consciousness are infinite, random, spontaneous and cannot be defined, explained, fully understood or fully known. Relative to both consciousness and space all that is physical and karmic or based on energy can only be impermanent and in a constant state of flux.

So while you may share the same physical form as any other human being in that you have a head, neck, a body, arms, and legs and hair, eyes, nose mouth and other facial features, who you are in terms of self today is not the same as you were last week or last year, nor are you going to be the same as you will be next week or next year.

Therefore it's important not to get too caught up or attached to your physical form or identity because it will divorce you from the reality of your life experience and connection to environment and other.

space

An atom is electrons and protons whizzing round a nucleus which is a moon orbiting a planet or a galaxy swirling around a black hole. Natural Law is about learning to recognize pattern, rhythm, vibration, cycles and sequences from a human consciously aware perspective.

An individual cycle of sound and silence is a nanosecond but the life cycle of a human being can be anything up to 120 years and the life cycle of a beech tree can be as long as 350 years. Much of what exists out there in the universe exists way beyond the limitations and comprehension of human perception and understanding.

Natural Law is the basic mystical principle of existence and nothing more

The universe is coming at you constantly in a vast multi-dimensional continuum of sensation and experience. In other words everything is happening everywhere all the time. By contrast the focus of human conscious attention is extremely narrow, linear and can only handle one, two or possible three variables simultaneously at the same time.

This means that reality cannot ever be fully understood, explained, defined, or known from the perspective of the human mind. Much of what is existence is mysterious and this is the fundamental basis of mysticism. Anything that is mysterious or unknown to you, or not understood, that is mysticism from your individual conscious perspective.
