Qultura Core - how to reach us.
The ROSE Community Club Rooms
Currently the Qultura Core project, which is the nucleus of both the Qultura organization and community, makes use of community space kindly made accessible to us by Wandsworth Council for the purposes of working towards our mission for the benefit of the local community. This is currently centred within the ROSE (Residents of the Savona Estate) Community Club Rooms in Ascalon Street, Battersea. The actual address is 22 Ascalon Street, Nine Elms, London SW8 4AN
Below we have reproduced a Google map of the surrounding area for people who may be coming from outside the local community or those people from the local community who are new to the local community, or who get lost easily or who are coming to the community space for the first time.
Currently the nearest Underground station is Vauxhall (it's quite a walk, so please see 'Buses' below, and either Battersea Park station (see map above) or Queenstown Road. It's a good 10-15 minutes walk from Vauxhall tube either along Nine Elms Lane and Battersea Park Road or you can take the more scenic route along the Thames side Path from St George's Tower. It's closer from either of the railway stations. If coming from Queenstown Road turn right out of the station, walk to the junction of Battersea Park Road, (you should see the Boqueria on the corner), turn right, pass Battersea Park station (if alighting here turn left outside the station) and continue along Battersea Park Road until you cross the bridge over a railway line and come to The Duchess Belle on your right. Turn right into Savona Street to the far end, which brings you into Ascalon Street. Turn right and the ROSE should be on your left.
Let's start with the P5 which runs between the Elephant and Castle and Patmore Estate, taking in Brixton, Clapham North and Stockwell. The Ascalon Street stop, the last stop before the terminus on the Patmore Estate, drops you right outside the ROSE. However if you want to leave using the P5 bus, it's best to turn left on leaving the ROSE and walk to Stewarts Road, then turn left and catch the P5 from it's terminus and first stop. P5 buses are generally every 15 minutes or so.
However you can also take the 156, 344 and 436 buses to Sleaford Street which is on Battersea Park Road right by Battersea Power Station, from where the ROSE is a short walk from Sleaford Street. All three buses leave from Stop E at Vauxhall Bus station, they also serve Battersea Park station going in the opposite direction. Both the 156 and 344 serve Clapham Junction, where the 156 takes you via Lavender Hill and Queenstown Road, while the 344 takes you north from Clapham Junction via Falcon Road and then turns right along Battersea Park Road.
If you're travelling towards Vauxhall, the Sleaford Street bus stop is the stop immediately after Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and drops you across the road from The Duchess Belle pub and Savona Street. Simply continue along Savona Street to the end and turn right into Ascalon Street, where you'll find the ROSE on the left.
If you're travelling towards either Battersea Park or Clapham Junction, Sleaford Street is situated on Battersea Park Road outside the Viridiana block of flats. This is four stops from Vauxhall bus station. When you get off the bus walk in the same direction as the bus, turn left into Thessally Road, passing the locksmiths and Costcutter on your left. Ascalon Street is the first right immediately before the railway bridge carrying the main lines from London Waterloo over Thessally Road, and you will find ROSE on your left as you pass the entrance to the Savona Estate on your right.
Driving and cycling
Finding a parking space outside the ROSE is difficult so we advise against anyone bringing a car. However if you're driving and giving someone a lift please be aware that there's no direct access to Ascalon Street from Battersea Park Road. You need to come to the ROSE from Wandsworth Road turning into either Thessally Road (by Larkhall Park) or Stewarts Road, which continues from Union Road where it meets Wandsworth Road driving through the Patmore Estate.
If cycling you have unrestricted access and can come via either Battersea Park Road or Wandsworth Road. There's also one of those Transport for London bike stands at the junction of Battersea Park Road and Thessally Road.
The community space at ROSE is fully accessible for wheelchair users but please note that neither Battersea Park nor Queenstown Road are step free so we recommend travelling to Vauxhall station which has step free access throughout. If you contact us a day or so prior to coming to the ROSE community space we can arrange for an escort to meet you at the bus stop.
Leaving the community space
Some of our meetings and events end quite late, i.e. after 9pm. If you are a woman who's unaccompanied or you are unfamiliar with the area we recommend leaving via the Savona Estate/Battersea Park Road route where you will be completely safe. Please also be mindful of the need for peace when leaving our spaces and walking through residential areas such as the Savona Estate.
